To create this particular figure, Goodnight studied videos of clashing stallions from the Spring Creek Wild Horse Management Area in Colorado. The artist would repeatedly play video in slow motion to understand the horses' sequence of moves and to freeze the exact moment in time when the horse is in a half rearing position.
