Ani Ivry-Block's blood-curdling guttural howls smash the two-way mirror of societal norms to bits and leave us to try to piece it back together and make sense of it
The vocalists timbre and range can only be described as an old rotary phone echoing through the silence somewhere in the desolate woods
overlaid with truly dithersome electronics
it vibed almost like a radio show you'd catch late at night on WFMU -- weird and lo-fi
“Shout”
BOYS NEXT DOOR - Door, Door LP (RSD 2020) tropicalia Ani Ivry-Block's blood-curdling guttural howls40th anniversary red vinyl edition. 500 copies only. Sold out at the source. Rough around the edges early work from the band soon to be known as The Birthday Party, featuring one Nick Cave. Often sounding like Australia's answer to the poetic pop punk of the Boomtown Rats (esp. the A side) whilst the B side sounds like an early prototype of the Bad Seeds.
