Terrific graphics on this old Japanese medicine packet
SOLD Antique Folk Art Oil on Canvas with Shored Boat and Disappearing Sky ink drawing with collage Plain yellow on the backQuite poetic I think, the way the sky here has chipped away, exposing the canvas beneath and in so doing pointing to the fiction inherent in all representation. Just right for an image of a docked, or washed up, row boat too, with human nowhere in view; time passes, trees fall, people and things disappear. 10" x 8" . Paint loss as evident but quite stable, no more chipping and otherwise in lovely condition. Late 19th c. I believe. Lovely.
