This form of the species has red prickles all over the leaf surface

The stems root easily so if you ever have a problem with root rot or you just want to trim up the plant then put the cut stems in soil and you'll have new plants

The leaves look like red egg shaped rocks with a rough surface (they turn green in low light)

This is a small clumping species with a gray-green body

Pachypodium brevicaule *Own Roots* Cactus I'll do my best toPachypodium brevicaule Family: Apocynaceae. The smallest and most unusual of all Pachypodiums. It only grows a few inches tall but spreads horizontally forming a clump a foot or more across in time. The flowers are yellow. This is a slow growing species, but a very rewarding one to grow. Not difficult to grow. Can survive temps down to (but not below) freezing, but prefers it a bit warmer in winter if possible (that is true for all Pachypodiums).
